PauseDraw × MD PRODUCT Sketch Night
During the event held from January 24 to February 1, 2026, there were two special days marked by a particularly profound immersion in the experience of "drawing."
We held "PauseDraw × MD PRODUCT Sketch Night," led by illustrator Adrian Hogan and artist Luis Mendo.
Here are some moments from that enriching time spent with a drink in hand, engaging with both "drawing" and the MD Notebook.
Breaking free from "drawing well"
The theme of the workshop was "PauseDraw”: taking a pause from the rush of daily life to observe and draw the world right in front of you.
"It doesn’t matter whether you are good at sketching. Just enjoy the act of drawing."
Luis and Adrian’s warm guidance filled the venue with a relaxed atmosphere. In front of each participant were their writing tools and an untouched MD Notebook.
Observation and dialogue through the MD Notebook
The first part of the program began with carefully observing and drawing the objects at hand. The cream-colored paper of the MD Notebook gently accepts every line, no matter how rough or hesitant, as a unique form of "expression."
The second half featured unique activities, such as sharing notebooks with neighbors and collaborative relay drawing. As individual lines overlapped with someone else's imagination and transformed into unexpected art, laughter and gasps of surprise filled the venue.
The Instructors' Perspective and the Participants' Discoveries
Moving between tables, the two instructors looked into each participant's notebook, engaging in continuous dialogue.
"The way you captured this detail is fascinating," they remarked. "Lines that don't strive for perfection often convey the most emotion."
It was inspiring to see the participants' strokes become bolder and more liberated as they learned to see the 'delight in the world' through the eyes of professional artists.
A Record of "Time for Yourself"
By the end of the 90-minute workshop, there were as many distinct ways of "filling the Yohaku" as there were participants.
Some created intricate sketches; others, dynamic drawings.
These are not merely "pictures" but tangible evidence of time spent—a record of moments where one fully embraced the joy of observation and an honest dialogue with oneself.
"To draw is to love the world." This message, left by our two instructors, will surely continue to live on within the pages of each participant's MD Notebook.
